The Program has achieved an excellent reputation among various institutions of education, research, and extension through the qualification of professionals working in these institutions. This reputation has been recognized as a significant contribution of the Program to improving the performance of these institutions throughout Brazil and abroad.
When evaluating the training of personnel at the Master’s level, the alumni of the Program, originally from Ceará and other States of the Federation, are currently affiliated with various institutions: EMBRAPA research centers, state research companies, INCRA, IBAMA, state extension companies, departments of agriculture, science and technology, and environment, private entities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), higher education institutes, technical schools, and universities.
Before the establishment of the PhD course in Soil Science, many alumni who sought to continue their postgraduate studies pursued other programs that offered a PhD. Currently, it is observed that Master’s graduates in Soil Science from UFC remain in the Program, continuing their research in the PhD course. However, there are also cases of postgraduates who wish to pursue their PhDs at other institutions and, upon completing their Master’s in the PPGCS, are accepted into programs offered by institutions such as ESALQ/USP, UFRGS, UFV, and UFRPE. It is important to emphasize that professionals who are already university and/or institute faculty members, specialists in soils or related areas (Forestry Engineering, Geography, Crop Science, and Biology), have also sought further development through the Postgraduate Program in Soil Science at the Federal University of Ceará.
The PPGCS has made efforts to monitor the professional activities of its alumni. In addition to these efforts, the Federal University of Ceará launched in 2019 the “Alumni Portal” — https://egressos.ufc.br/nossos-egressos/ (Link to a new website) — an important tool for collecting data on undergraduate and postgraduate alumni.
It is important to highlight some indicators about the graduates of the Program.
